Book over

These poems vividly describe the many appalling aspects of war. Whether afloat or on land. Then, after all that, the eventual and arduous adjustment to life in Civvy Street.Physical wounds and mental anguish - these works try to describe uncertain and dangerous situations. We know from history that men and women suffered from their experiences, but could not understand why they became emotionally numb. Many survivors resorted to writing poetry and in doing so they were expressing the things that they could not speak about. This anthology has been compiled using poems and fragments, all of which describe, from one generation to the next, the frailties and the strengths of man. The sadness which many poems possess shows us that war is futile and this is borne out by the emotional feelings of pity. Moreover, we must never forget the great personal bravery manifested throughout this anthology.  John Montgomery  (Compiler)
